Raw materials for corundum mullite bricks include brown corundum/ brown alumina, white fused corundum/white fused alumina, tabular alumina etc. Corundum bricks are distributed into different types based on different Al2O3 content, different producing process, different density etc. There is also combined corundum bricks.

Corundum mullite bricks with different substrates are produced according to the different service temperatures, and in most cases, different grades of corundum bricks are made according to the specifications request of the users. Composite corundum bricks include brown corundum and silicon carbide composite bricks, corundum and silicon nitride composite bricks, as well as composite corundum mullite bricks combined by white corundum or tabular corundum with mullite. There are also light-weight corundum bricks, with pretty different density, bulk density of light weight corundum bricks could be lower than 1.5 g/cm3. There are also corundum refractory bricks compounded with chrome, which are generally used as working lining of waste treatment incinerators.

For corundum mullite bricks with Al2O3 content over 95%, they could be shaped by casting process, such bricks are more widely used as working lining of glass smelting furnace, it has excellent resistance to alkali smelt glass, meanwhile price is high. Such bricks include AZS bricks, zirconia mullite bricks, corundum mullite bricks etc.

Product use

The shape for light weight corundum mullite bricks is cut by machine according to request, bulk density is generally around 1.5 g/cm3. Such insulation bricks could be used as insulation layer, it could also be used as working lining of some light industrial furnace with high temperature, like shuttle kilns, and some light tunnel kilns.

The dense corundum are very widely used according to different service temperature of the kilns and corrosion resistance. For some ultra high temperature zone with sever corrosion, white fused corundum bricks or corundum mullite bricks are applied, with bulk density over 3.0 g/cm3. For some furnace door, the corundum combined silicon Nitride bricks are applied. Corundum bricks, corundum mullite bricks and corundum combined Silicon carbide bricks are fired under high temperature in furnaces.
