There are two types materials for refractory steel anchors, metallic and ceramic. Metal anchors are made of low carbon steel, heat-resistant alloy steel, nickel-chromium alloy and other materials. Ceramic anchors are made of refractory raw materials after molding and firing.

Refractory steel Anchors refer to the components used to connect the integral refractory lining, refractory prefabricated parts, refractory fiber blankets, ceramic fiber modules and furnace shell or furnace steel structure. The function of the anchor is to fix the connected lining in a certain position to resist static load, thermal stress, forces from mechanical rotation or vibration. Anchors help prevent materials collapse during application and heating prior to ceramic bond formation and also help to even out shrinkage of the material and avoid formation of large, concentrated cracks in the liner .

 

There are many shapes of refractory steel anchors, such as Y-type, V-type, T-type, S-type, etc. Metal anchors are used to support and fix thinner linings installed from refractory castables, refractory plastics and refractory spray coatings. Shapes of metal anchor to be used depend on the structure of the lining. The shape of the ceramic anchor is that the upper and lower ends must be planes, and the other four sides are toothed, so as to increase the occlusal area and friction with the lining, and play the role of suspension and support.

 

Most of the anchors are used as fixtures for the monolithic refractory lining (castable, plastic and sprayed lining). Anchors are also used for refractory brick lining, but are not widely used. Metal anchors are usually used to support and fix thinner or heat-insulating integral linings, such as chimney linings, wear-resistant linings for petrochemical catalytic cracking reactors (commonly used tortoise shell mesh anchors), and integral linings of spray gun for powder spraying metallurgy, the overall lining of the immersion tube of the DH and RH vacuum degassing device, the lining of the discharge and feeding part of the rotary kiln, etc. Metal anchors are mostly used to fix the lining whose long-term service temperature is below 1200°C, or the intermittent short-term service temperature above 1200°C. Ceramic anchors are usually used to fix thicker (lining thickness is greater than 200mm) integral linings.

 

Characteristics of ceramic anchors: (1) It can withstand high service temperature, and is generally used in the lining of kilns for long-term use above 1200 °C; (2) It can withstand the erosion and corrosion of corrosive atmosphere; (3) It can be extended to the working surface to reduce the peeling of the overall lining; (4) Compared with metal anchors, the contact area with the refractory lining is larger, so it has greater supporting capacity; (5) The thermal expansion coefficient is equivalent to that of the overall refractory material, which can eliminate the cracking or peeling of the lining due to thermal expansion mismatch.
