Magnesia carbon bricks is non-burnt carbon composite fire bricks made from high purity fused magnesite and flake graphite as main raw materials, anti-oxidant additives are applied. Phenolic resin is used as binding agent.

Magnesia carbon bricks are generally used as working linings of basic oxygen converter, Electric Arc Furnace, steel refining furnaces,ladle slag zone etc.

 

Magnesia carbon brick is composite bricks, so the good slag resistance of magnesite and high thermal conductivity & low expand rate of graphite are efficiently combined, make up the low spalling performance of magnesite.

Influence to properties of magnesia bricks from raw materials 

Main raw material for magnesia carbon bricks is magnesite. Quality of magnesite influence the properties of magnesia carbon bricks very much, it's important to choose proper magnesite for brick production. There are dead burnt magnesite and fused magnesite with different features.

Fused magnesite : Large crystal granularity, low impurities content, less silicate content, the crystal are mostly directly bonded result to dense material with high thermal properties

Dead burnt magnesia: Crystal granularity is small, impurities and silicate material content is higher when compared to fused magnesia, direct-bonded degree of crystal is low.

Regarding to magnesia raw material, besides chemical composition, generally higher density and larger crystal granularity in structure are appreciated. In this way, generally when we judge the quality of magnesite, we offer check factors as following: 1. MgO content (Purity degree) 2. content and types of Impurities , ratio of CaO/SiO2, and content of B2O3. 3. Bulk density, size & shape of pores etc/ of magnesite. 

Purity grade of magnesite has big influence to slag resistance of magnesia carbon bricks. The higher MgO content, the less impurities and silicate material. As a result the direct-bonded degree of periclase crystal is higher, so the slag resistance, corrosion resistance, erosion resistance are higher. Impurities of magnesia carbon bricks include CaO, SiO3, Fe2O3 etc. When the impurities content  especially the B2O3 content is high, the thermal resistance and high temperature properties will be badly influenced.
